Eligibility Requirements
The Business Investment Visa is aimed at entrepreneurs and business owners who intend to set up or invest in a company in Brazil. Applicants must have a clear business plan and invest a minimum amount in a new or existing company, with the goal of contributing to the local economy and generating employment. Approval is not guaranteed and is up to the discretion of the Brazilian Consulate and Ministry of Justice.
Applicants must submit a range of supporting documents to complete the Business Investment Visa application.
These typically include:
- Valid passport
- Business plan
- Company registration in Brazil (CNPJ)
- Proof of capital transfer (minimum R$500,000 BRL or R$150,000 BRL in special cases)
- Criminal background check
- Birth certificate if the client’s parents’ name isn’t on their passport
Timing your background check: The background check must be issued within 90 days of us filing your visa application. Please don’t request it early. Wait until closer to your filing date so it doesn’t expire before submission.
It’s essential to ensure all documents are properly translated and notarized as per consulate or Federal Police guidelines. Federal Police or consulate can ask for further information at their own discretion.
Documents must be legalised at the nearest consulate or bear an apostille certificate.
Approval is not guaranteed and is up to the discretion of the Brazilian Consulate and Ministry of Justice.
You’ll need to invest a minimum of R$500,000 BRL in a Brazilian business to qualify for the Business Investment Visa. In some cases, such as innovation or scientific and technological research ventures, a reduced amount between R$150,000 and R$500,000 BRL may be accepted.
Applicants must provide proof of fund transfer and corporate bank statements as part of the application.
May be accepted but dependent on other requirements being met.
Where a company outside Brazil invests in a Brazilian entity, different criteria apply. The minimum is R$600,000 BRL per application, or R$150,000 BRL per application coupled with a commitment to create at least 10 new jobs within two years.
Under this route, the investing company appoints a foreign national to an executive or management position, and that person is the one who obtains residence. Where an individual invests directly, it is the investing partner who obtains residence.
The ten-job commitment applies only to this route at the lower investment level. It does not apply to individual investors.
Applicants must provide proof of fund transfer and corporate bank statements as part of the application.
It typically takes 6-9 months to receive approval for the Business Investment Visa. This includes time to register the company, transfer funds, and process your application through the Ministry of Labor and the Federal Police.
