Nothing happens automatically. Your Digital Nomad Visa doesn’t renew itself, and it doesn’t lapse into another status on its own. You need to file for renewal before the 12-month period ends, and as long as you still meet the income and remote work requirements, there’s no limit on how many times you can do this.

What do you need to qualify for renewal?
The same two things you needed the first time, proof of at least $1,500 USD a month in income (or $18,000 USD in savings), and continued remote work for a foreign employer or foreign clients. If either of those changes, your renewal isn’t automatic.
